1. How can I get the music feature for my
group's page?
The best way to do this is to embed your
profile page's player. Go to your My Page tab and locate your music
player in the left column. Click the "View Embed Code" link on the
bottom right corner of the player. Copy the "Embed" code from the
music player and paste it into your Group text box or in the
Discussion Forum, whichever you prefer.
2. How do I find the music
player?
Your music player will be located on the main
page of EHS-93. You'll also have your own music player on your My
Page on the network, in the left column.
3. Where is my music player or
playlist?
Go to your My Page tab. Your music player
will be located in the left column of your page.
4. How do I change the order of my
songs?
Click the "Edit Playlist" button at the
bottom of your player, which will take you to a page where you can
rearrange your songs. Click "Save" and you'll be returned to your
page where your songs will now appear in the new
order!
5. How do I add music to the music player on
My Page?
There are a few ways to add music to your My
Page. First, you can add songs from your computer. Just click on
the "Add Music" link at the bottom of your player, which will take
you to a page where you can upload songs in the mp3 format. Music
files for upload should not exceed 20 MB in size. Second, if you
hear a song you like, either on the main page or another member's
personal page, just click the "Add to My Page" link, which shows at
the top of the music player. That song will be automatically added
to your page. Finally, if you find a podcast or playlist you like
somewhere on the Internet, you can copy the URL / location, click
the "Edit" button at the top of your player, and paste the URL into
the "Podcast" section.
6. How many songs can I have in my
player?
You can have up to 100 tracks in the music
player on your My Page.
7. What formats of music are
supported?
If you want to upload music, it must be in
the mp3 format. You can also link to any song that is located
online. Your network will give you an error message if you try to
upload any format other than mp3. Audio files in the mp3 format are
indicated by a ".mp3" at the end of their title.
8. Can I add more than four mp3s at a
time?
Unfortunately, no. The Ning platform only
allows 4 songs to upload at a time. Perhaps this will be revised in
the future!
9. Can I have my player automatically start
for other people viewing My Page?
Yes. Click "Edit" at the top of the player
and check the "Autoplay" checkbox.
10. Can I create multiple
playlists?
Not at this time. But you can using
"www.playlist.com". It allows you to setup multiple playlists, but
only one can be displayed your My Page at a
time.
11. Can I add album artwork to my
song?
Absolutely! After you've uploaded a song,
you'll arrive at a page to "Edit Song Info." Click the button next
to "artwork" and upload the album art from your computer. You can
also add album artwork later by clicking the "Edit Playlist" link
at the bottom of the music player on your page and clicking "Edit"
for the song you want to add artwork to. When you're done, don't
forget to click the "Done" button below the song information box to
save the artwork!
12. Can I download a song someone else
uploaded?
By default, anyone can download any song that
is added to a network. However, someone can change the default so
that no one is able to download the song they added. To download a
song, simply click the downward pointing arrow next to the song's
title in the music player's playlist.
13. Can other people download a song I
uploaded?
By default, every song you upload to your
network will be available for download by that network's members.
If you don't want people to be able to download your song, you can
change that setting when you upload each song. When you arrive at
the song's information page, uncheck the box next to "Enable
download link." You can also change this setting after you've
uploaded a song by clicking "Edit Playlist" on your page's music
player. Click the "edit" link next to the song you don't want
people to be able to download anymore. Uncheck the box next to
"Enable download link" and click "done" to save your
changes.
14. Can I keep listening to my network's
playlist when I leave the main page?
Not right now, but we're working on it -
we'll have a music pop-up feature soon!
15. Can I show my player on my profile page
or personal blog on another site?
Usually, yes! If the other site allows
embedding, you can click on the "View embed code" link at the
bottom of player, copy the code that is shown, and paste it on the
external site.
16. How can I play external songs and
podcasts? .
You can link to external podcasts to play
them on your page. Go to the My Page tab on the network and click
on the "Add Music" link in the music player, located in the left
column of your page. To the right of the song uploader, you'll see
a box to "add music from any website by pasting in a link to the
MP3." Click the "Add Music" link, enter the URL of the song or
podcast you want to feature in your playlist, and click the "Add
Songs" button. Next, you can edit your song's information. Be sure
to click the "Done" button!
17. How can I tell if a network I'm on has a
Facebook application?
Network Creators have the option to very
easily set up branded music, video, and slideshow player
applications on Facebook. Anyone can then add the applications to
their Facebook profile to showcase their membership in the network.
You will know that the Network Creator has set up a Facebook
application for the network by looking at the network's main page.
If there are applications, the Facebook logo and a link to add the
network's application to your Facebook profile appear under the
slideshow, video, or music player. If you don't see the link and
logo, the Network Creator has not set up a Facebook application
yet. Feel free to message him or her to ask for this
feature!
18. Can I add a song someone else uploaded to
the playlist on my page?
By default, anyone can add any song on a
network to their playlist on their page. However, someone can
change the default so that no one is able to use the song they
added in their personal playlist.
19. Can I upload a song I performed if I
didn't write it?
If the song you're performing is in the
public domain, then you can upload and distribute it. If the song
you're performing is not in the public domain, then generally
speaking you can't legally upload and distribute it unless it falls
under the doctrine of fair use. You should consult the relevant
copyright laws in your country in order to determine the legal
status of material that you upload to a network if you are in any
doubt.
20. The music player says it's playing a song
I uploaded, but nothing's playing. What's going
on?
It's possible that the song wasn't in the mp3
format when you uploaded it. The network will give you an error
message if you try to upload anything other than an mp3, but if you
override the error message it will still try to upload it. If this
happens, the music player will get 'stuck' on this song. Try
removing the song, converting it to the mp3 format, and uploading
it again.
21. Why isn't my song or podcast
uploading?
First make sure you're signed in to, and a
member of, the network you wish to add a song or podcast to. Your
song or podcast must be in the mp3 format, indicated by a ".mp3" at
the end of its title. Also note that audio files can't be larger
than 20MB, and each member of a network can only upload a maximum
of 100 songs to that network.
22. How do I convert a song from the m4a
format to the mp3 format in iTunes?
If you've downloaded a song or ripped a CD to
your iTunes library in the m4a format, you'll need to convert it to
the mp3 format before you can upload it to your network. Open
iTunes. Go to the Edit menu and select "Preferences." Under the
Advanced tab, click on the Importing tab. Under "Import Using,"
select "MP3 Encoder" from the drop down menu. Click OK. Next, find
the song or songs you wan to convert to mp3 format. Highlight them,
open the Advanced menu, and click on "Convert Selection to MP3."
Songs you converted to MP3 format will now be indicated by a ".mp3"
at the end of their title.
23. Can I set my music player to repeat or
loop?
Yes you can! If you want to have your music player on repeat, click the playback style arrow to "Repeat Playback: On." Your music will now loop! How can I add music to a network? To add music to a network, go to your profile page or the main page and click "Add Music." Be default, you'll be able to use the bulk uploader to add up to 100 songs at a time to the network. The first time you use the uploader, you'll see a pop-up window that says "This applet was signed by Ning Inc and authenticated by VeriSign Inc. Do you trust this certificate?" Click the "Trust" button to proceed. In the left pane, find the songs on your computer. To upload them, double click on a photo. Or, you can drag and drop a song or a whole folder to the right pane of "Songs to Upload." You can drag and drop the photos into the perfect order. To remove photos you've added to the right preview pane, you can drag them out of the preview pane and drop them, or highlight them and press the "Delete" key. Once you're ready to upload, click the "Next" button. On the next screen, you can add titles, tags, and descriptions for your photos and choose the privacy. To apply the same information to all of the photos in this batch, fill out the top portion under "Edit Information for All Photos." Then click the button to "Apply this info to the photos below." If you're experiencing issues with the bulk uploader, you can always use the simple uploader by clicking the link to "Return to our simple uploader" at the bottom of the page.
24. With the bulk media uploader, what are the size limits for photos, videos and music?
Using the bulk media uploader, you can add up to 100 photos of 10MB or less each, up to 100 songs of 20MB or less each, and up to 30 videos of 100MB or less each.
