Troop Space

Hey Ian, this is Bob from BAA (thebugleboy). Great place you have here. Are you still using that big mouthpiece in your bugle? I'll check in from time to time and say hello, and if I'm not careful, I might learn something while I'm here. Great discussions. Nice crowd.

Yes I`ve grown to like the 1C as I can vary the notes a bit. It great in my Bb bugles as well . No wonder the Jazz players use them

Yeah they make a nice full sound. I like them, but I have to be a Hercules to use one for lead playing. For orchestral work, you can't beat a 1 or 3 deep cup.

One of me mates went & lived amoungst the Siox in sth Dakota, about a year ago & came home with an Indian flute. They sound pretty cool.

I make flutes. Maybe if I can get motivated again and have the time and not be lazy (and find the right materials...that's the only legit excuse) I'll make you one.

Ah cool. I make fanfare trumpets out of Plumbers fittings. There is a photo of it on my page. Col me mate wants to know what tribe are you originally from?

Hahepi Waste friend.
Teton (of the Lakota Nation...Sioux). Sioux is a name given by the Kiawa and Pawnee (then enemies to the Lakota). The army picked it up from Kiawa and Pawnee scouts. It translates sometimes as "hated enemy." The name Sioux stuck. Tatankayotanka (Sitting Bull) was one of my Grandmother's people.

Sounds like you have some interesting heritage behind you.

Hi Ian and Bob this is Jay from (BAA) Bob it is great to see you here, hang around and watch yourself you might make a bunch of new friends.

Hey Jay! We sure meet the nicest people here! Good to see you brother.
BTW, Jay and Ian, I didn't get the cheap Martin I mentioned on the BAA forum, but I did get
a VERY nice playing horn for practically nothing. I'm working on my son to take up the brass.

Hi Jay welcome to the "Aussie/Injun" education forum. At least we can relax a bit here & keep BAA a bit formal. I`ll have to get serious with my cornet I`ve loaned out or get another one as I`ve started to get civillian funeral requests.
Picked up a great trumpet book which included amazing grace in it. Could have played it at my recent mother-in - laws funeral.
It`s great to hear that BAA has had a great plugging over there since Toms Interview & with DOD. It`s only going to get bigger, but as long as we can get dedicated members

What sort of cornet do you have loaned out?
Kookadookabooka,
Bob

I`ll email you a picture of it. It is a 1917 Besson & co. I have registered it on data. It`s worth a lot of money
